Just a day after his appointment as Jubilee Party’s new Secretary General, former Narok North Member of Parliament (MP) Moitalel Ole Kenta, has embarked on a journey to cement the faction’s political vet in his home turf.

Ole Kenta, on Friday, January 23, 2026, held a meeting with Jubilee Party Narok members to deliberate on strategies with plans afoot for the camp to play a vital role in the 2027 General Elections.

Already, the retired President-led faction has fronted its Deputy leader, Fred Matiang’I to run for the country’s top seat in what is expected to give the opposition a bigger chance in the presidential bid.

In a press briefing, Ole Kenta exuded confidence that he has the wherewithal to succeed his predecessor, Jeremiah Kioni, who was elevated to the position of the Second Party Leader in the latest Jubilee leadership changes.

“I do not take this responsibility lightly. As everyone knows, Jubilee has played a key role in Kenya’s democratic journey. We pride for the journey and responsibility for the future,” he said.

“Jubilee is founded on democratic responsibility, and I will make sure it retains its national sheen.”

The move is part of the faction’s political moves to strengthen its turf as it woos other regions gearing up towards the 2027 shutdown to stop President William Ruto’s reelection bid.

Although the United Opposition are still holding back from fronting their Presidential candidate, Matiang’i has the upper hand to be fronted by the United Opposition to contest in 2027 as the political chessboard is already getting volatile.

Meanwhile, support for the Jubilee Party has nearly tripled in recent months following Retired President Uhuru Kenyatta’s public backing of  Matiang’i as the party’s flag bearer in the upcoming 2027 elections, a new survey reveals.

According to the latest TIFA Research survey released on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, Jubilee’s support has surged from 3 per cent in August 2025 to 11 per cent in November 2025, making it the third most popular political party in Kenya behind ODM (20 per cent) and UDA (16 per cent).

TIFA attributed the dramatic increase in Jubilee’s popularity to Uhuru Kenyatta’s more visible support of Matiang’i’s positioning within the party leadership ahead of the next general election.

“The proportions who indicate that they identify with no party, as well as those stating that they are ‘undecided’ about this have decreased, the main beneficiary (aside from ODM) being Jubilee, whose support has nearly tripled since August (from 3% to 11%), perhaps as a result of former President Uhuru’s more public support of his former CS Fred Matiang’i’s new position as Deputy Party Leader ahead of the next election,” TIFA stated in its report.

Ole Kenta, the man

Kenta, an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya, holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Nairobi.

He was first elected to Parliament in 2013 on a TNA ticket to serve as Narok North MP and served two consecutive terms before contesting the Narok gubernatorial seat in the 2022 General Election.

Beyond elective politics, he has held senior positions in key public institutions, including serving as Chairman of Kenya Wine Agencies Limited (KWAL) and as a Director at the Geothermal Development Company (GDC).

Jubilee described him as a principled leader known for his firm stance against corruption and consistent advocacy for the protection of the Mau Forest ecosystem, a position that has earned him respect across political divides, particularly in the Rift Valley region.

“A public servant by conviction, Hon. Kenta brings to the Party a wealth of experience in elective politics, legal expertise, strategic management and institutional governance at a critical moment when the Party is strengthening its structures and positioning itself to win seats across the country,” the statement read.
