Matiang’i puts security teams on the spot in bid to end illicit businesses

Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) Fred Matiang’i yesterday directed security teams in Kericho county, to flush out individuals dealing in illegal trade and illicit brews in the area.
The CS cited gambling, illicit brews, bhang businesses and pool games as sources of crime within Kericho county.
He warned officers charged with security of dire consequences, should they fail to stamp out such vices within the next 24 hours.
“Effective tomorrow, (today) we will begin operations from areas where such illegal activities are rampant. We are up to the task to clean the area,” he declared.
The CS was briefing journalists at the Kericho Teachers’ Training College, after holding a security meeting with officers from six sub-counties in the county.
Matiang’i toured the county to deliberate on security matters, development agenda and to assess the progress made by schools in the area, in complying with Covid-19 rules on resumption of face-to-face learning.
CSs Charles Keter (Energy) and Betty Maina Industrialisation), Permanent Secretary for Post Training and Skills Development Alfred Cheruiyot, Rift Valley Regional Coordinator George Natembeya and Director Inspector General Administration Police Noor Gabow among others attended the occasion.
Hunting down
He said that officers from his Ministry are working in collaboration with those from Education ministry, to ensure all school learners are back in school after about 10-months break due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Interior CS said security officers are hunting down parents, guardians and caregivers who are yet to send learners to schools.
“We are working with Education officials across the country to ensure no child stays out of school for whatever reason,”he said.
The CS revealed that almost all learners have reported in back school in the county and thanked Kericho Governor Paul Chepkwony’s administration for working with other stakeholders to ensure all children are in schools.
