Matiang’i challenges youth to lead in reshaping Kenya

By , December 16, 2025

Ahead of the next general election, Jubilee Party Presidential candidate Fred Matiang’i has challenged the country’s youth to be at the forefront in reshaping the nation’s leadership agenda.

Speaking while engaging with young people on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, the former Interior Cabinet Secretary said the youth must have open and unlimited space to access leaders and engage them on how to get Kenya working again.

The former CS encouraged the country’s younger population to be part of the current leadership transformation, urging them to start acting now, rather than tomorrow.

”Today, I met a group of young people who have stepped forward to use their voices and personal platforms to participate meaningfully in national conversations. I encouraged them to move beyond the outdated notion that they are merely the leaders of tomorrow, and to take up the responsibility of shaping their country today. I appeal to our young people to join me in the struggle to restore our country,” Matiang’i took to X.

Matiang’i’s plea to the youth comes days after he asked them to register as voters ahead of the fast-approaching 2027 general election.

Speaking at a public gathering on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, the former CS urged the nation’s younger population to take advantage of the resumed continuous voter registration exercise conducted by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

Voter registration

”To the young people, my brothers and sisters, I encourage you to register as voters. As you prepare to travel upcountry later this month for the festive season, please take a moment to register and remind your peers and families to do the same. Your future, and that of our nation, depends on your participation,” Matiang’i said.

Matiang’i also said registering as a voter among the youth is a sign of responsible citizenship.

”If we cannot vote in 2027, we will not change our lives. The only way to initiate change is through voting. Let us do so as faithful citizens to move our country forward.” He added.

Meanwhile, via a public notice released on Friday, December 5, 2027, IEBC has also confirmed the resumption of the continuous voter registration exercise in the areas that observed the November 27, 2025, by-elections.
