Here is what you need to know to keep up to speed with today’s happenings

Interviews for IEBC commissioners

Interviews for the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) personnel are set to continue this Thursday, March 27, 2025.

The process that started on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, with the release of a long shortlist of applicants interested in the IEBC roles isbeing undertaken at the Kenya School of Insurance on Wednesday. The shortlisted candidates for the chairperson position concluded their oral interviews with Robert Akumu Asembo (Busia) and Saul Simiyu Wasilwa (Bungoma) facing the panel.

Focus now shifts to the commissioners’ interview set to begin today as the Nelson Makanda-led panel interviews the different applicants for the vacant six commissioners role.

“With this conclusion of the chairperson’s interviews, the panel will now proceed with the interviews for candidates shortlisted for the position of member, and these interviews will start on Thursday, March 27, 2025, and continue until Friday, April 25, 2025,” a statement for Makanda said.

The selection panel will equally present nine names to Ruto for the positions of commissioners, where the president will choose six.

Reactions to Ruto’s latest cabinet changes

Reactions are also expected from President William Ruto’s recent cabinet shakeup, which was effected on Wednesday, March 26, 2025.

In the changes, Cabinet Secretary for Public Service Justin Muturi was dismissed as Geoffrey Ruku, MP for Mbeere North, was nominated to fill the role at the Public Service.

Hanna Wendot Cheptumo, the widow of deceased senator William Cheptumo, was among the beneficiaries of the new cabinet slots with her appointment to the Gender portfolio.

With Ruku having thanked the president for considering him for the public office, Muturi’s reaction to his sacking from the cabinet is among the top news events expected today, along with other different political players.

Court cases

The former Majority Leader of the National Assembly and Kipiriri MP Amos Kimunya is set for the hearing of a corruption case involving him and three others.

According to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), Kimunya is charged with abuse of office and fraudulent disposal of public property for allegations relating to the excision of 25 acres of land belonging to Njabini Farmers Training Centre without consent of the Ministry of Agriculture.

The case will be mentioned at the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court this Wednesday, March 27, 2025.

World Theatre Day

World Theatre Day is marked annually today on March 27.

The commemoration for the day was initiated in 1962 by the International Theatre Institute (ITI). It is celebrated annually on 27 March by ITI Centres and the international theatre community.

Various national and international theater events, television, and the world of cinema are also organized to mark this occasion.
