Here is what you need to know to keep up to speed with today’s happenings.

WRC Safari Rally action

The 2025 WRC Safari Rally Kenya enters its third day with six special stages scheduled for today.

The action begins at 8:35 am with the Sleeping Warrior 1 stage, followed by the live TV broadcast of Elementaita 1 at 9:35 am and Soysambu 1 at 10:33 am.

The afternoon will see repeats of these stages, with Sleeping Warrior 2 at 3:05 pm, Elementaita 2 at 4:05 pm, and Soysambu 2 at 5:03 pm.

The rally, which began on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, with the Sleeping Warrior shakedown, has attracted thousands of motorsport fans from across East Africa.

An estimated 30,000 supporters from Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, and other EAC countries have flocked to Naivasha, significantly boosting tourism and hospitality in the region.

“I absolutely love the way Kenya organises the rally stages and spectator sections. The security is also top-notch,” said Henry Kimbugwe, a Ugandan motorsports enthusiast.

The event continues to captivate a global audience, with over 120 million viewers across 70 countries expected to tune in through 43 international broadcasters.

The rally will conclude tomorrow with the Wolf Power Stage at Hell’s Gate at 2:15 pm.

Ruto in Namibia

President William Ruto’s diplomatic mission to Namibia continues today, with more updates expected following his meeting with Zimbabwe’s President Emmerson Mnangagwa on the morning of Saturday, March 22, 2025.

The President’s visit began on Friday, March 21, 2025, with his attendance at the historic inauguration of Namibia’s first female president, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, coinciding with Namibia’s 35th Independence Anniversary.

After the inauguration ceremony, Ruto expressed Kenya’s willingness to deepen bilateral ties with Namibia under President Nandi-Ndaitwah’s leadership.

During his meeting with Mnangagwa, the two leaders agreed to convene a virtual meeting between the EAC and the Southern African Development Community (SADC) next week to address the escalating crisis in Eastern DRC.

“The East African Community and Southern African Development Community are firmly committed to implementing the resolutions of our joint summit held last month in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, on the escalating conflict in Eastern DRC,” President Ruto stated on Saturday.

Beyond the DRC crisis, Ruto’s discussions with Mnangagwa focused on strengthening regional integration through the Tripartite Free Trade Agreement, which unites the EAC, SADC, and COMESA, as well as advancing the African Continental Free Trade Area agreement.

Kenya Cup playoffs kick-off

Rugby enthusiasts are in for a treat as the Kenya Cup playoffs begin today with fourth-placed Nondescripts hosting fifth-placed Kenya Harlequins at the Ngong Racecourse in the highly anticipated Ngong Road Derby.

Experienced referee Constant Cap will oversee the match, assisted by Godwin Karuga and Duncan Kioko.

The winner of this fixture will advance to face defending champions Kabras RFC in the semi-finals.

Adding to the excitement, the two sides will also face off in the Eric Shirley Shield quarterfinals.

In another crucial playoff match, Kenyatta University Blak Blad will travel to Nakuru to take on Menengai Oilers at the ASK Showground, with Kevin Wambugu appointed as the referee.

The winner will book a semi-final clash with second-placed KCB.

Meanwhile, the Championship playoffs will see Zetech Oaks host JKUAT Cougars and Catholic Monks face off against Homeboyz, with winners advancing one step closer to securing promotion to next season’s Kenya Cup.

The Women’s playoffs will feature Northern Suburbs against Impala and NYS Ladies taking on Rongo University.
