Former Chief Justice David Maraga suffered a major blow shortly after launching his new social media handles for the presidential campaigns of 2027.

Maraga’s new X handle was suspended just hours after he unveiled it, sparking speculation on what could have gone wrong.

A spot-check by the People Daily Digital team revealed that the new account was suspended for violating X rules, which remain undisclosed.

Revamped communications

The X handle was among the many other social media handles Maraga had unveiled to revamp his communications ahead of the start of campaigns for the 2027 presidential polls.

“We wish to express our gratitude for the continued feedback from sections of Kenyans on the need to streamline our team’s communication strategy. After collecting suggestions from Kenyans and consulting internally, we have set up the following communication channels affiliated to the David Maraga Campaign: Facebook: @DavidMaraga27, X/Twitter: @David Maraga27, Instagram: @dkmaraga_, TikTok: @dkmaraga, and YouTube: @dkmaraga,” a statement by Maraga on Monday, July 28, 2025, reads in part.

He also unveiled a team of seven individuals to spearhead his branding, communications, and messaging for the 2027 presidential bid.

The team of seven individuals includes Carolyne Kiarie, Gloria Michira, Lewis Ngunyi, Nyamisa Chelagat, Shallet Kutment, Shakira Wafula, and Susan Lumumba.

Confident of victory

In an interview with K24 TV on July 21, 2025, Maraga revealed that within two days of creating his website, Kenyans abroad and locally had managed to raise more than Ksh500,000 to support his presidential bid.

He exuded confidence that he would comfortably trounce Ruto, who enjoys state power and machinery, and has also predicted that his track record would guarantee his re-election in 2027.

“I am very confident that I will win the 2027 election; people are tired, people just want change. People say that I don’t have money, but I am already appealing to the Kenyan people. Within two days of setting up the website, we had more than Ksh500,000, and those in the diaspora have put in dollars; that tells you that Kenyans want change,” Maraga said on July 21, 2025.
