Manyora explains why Kalonzo is United Opposition’s suitable presidential candidate
Seasoned political analyst Herman Manyora has come out to give reasons why the United Opposition will finally settle on Wiper Patriotic Front leader Kalonzo Musyoka as their flag bearer in 2027.
While speaking during an interview on his channel on Friday, September 27, 2025, Manyora stated that Kalonzo is the most suitable candidate, judging from his past political experience.
He explained that if the opposition were to choose a candidate based on qualifications, Kalonzo would tick the most boxes. According to him, Kalonzo stands out as the most suited compromise candidate, having been in politics longer than anyone else in the current opposition lineup.

“If the opposition were to decide to select a candidate by ticking boxes, I think Kalonzo will tick the most boxes,” Manyora stated.
Manyora pointed to Kalonzo’s wide political experience, including serving as vice president for a full five-year term, unlike Rigathi Gachagua, who only held the office for a short period. Kalonzo also served as minister in powerful cabinet portfolios such as foreign affairs and education.
During his time at Foreign Affairs, he oversaw the Sudan peace talks and handled other complex international situations.
He further noted that Kalonzo previously served as Organising Secretary for KANU, supported Raila Odinga for three consecutive terms, and is now around 70 years old.
“Kalonzo is the best; it is them. Is the most suited compromise candidate, to be very honest with ourselves, more suited than a compromised candidate? because ticking the boxes has been along for longer than anybody else has experienced up to Vice President full-time, not like Gachagua. A few months after one year, a full five years, minister for many years.” He added.
This, according to Manyora, makes him unsuitable to deputise younger leaders but positions him as the most experienced and compromise choice to carry the opposition’s mantle into 2027.
Kalonzo supporting Ruto
These also come days after Manyora himself predicted that if Gachagua insists on vying for the presidency as he wishes, currently Kalonzo might cross over to support President Ruto for his reelection in 2027.

“The first thing that will make Kalonzo perhaps join the government is perhaps if Gachagua decides to vie or if Matiang’i does the same, for Kalonzo can’t support anybody else; rightfully so, he would cede ground to Raila, and it would be understandable. Who will he cede ground to? All these are junior to him,” Manyora stated.
