At least three people were killed at the weekend in separate incidents following domestic quarrels.

One of the victims was attacked and killed by a mob after he stabbed his wife to death and also injured his son in Siaya County.

According to the police, Bernard Odweso, 60, stabbed and killed his wife, Pamela Anyango, 55, on Sunday afternoon following a disagreement over Sh30 meant for church offering.

It was established that while at home with his wife and daughter, a disagreement over the money erupted. The wife, now deceased, then accused Odweso of stealing the money causing him to become wild and stab his wife several times.

Their 22-year-old daughter Vida Odweso escaped the scene and screamed for help.

Siaya County police commander said neighbours including the couple’s son responded to the screams and found the attacker armed with a knife and metal rod outside the home.

“The father attacked the son with a knife injuring him in the neck and leg as he responded to the scene where the mother was lying motionless,” said Kimaiyo.

Pending autopsy

By then, angry residents had arrived at the compound and cornered Odweso and beat him up before being rushed to the Siaya County Referral Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The injured son was also taken to the hospital, treated and discharged.

The bodies of the man and woman were taken to the Siaya County Referral Hospital mortuary for preservation pending autopsy.

In another case, a woman is on the run after allegedly stabbing and killing her husband in a disagreement over a cow on Sunday in Nyamira county.

Francis Otiso’s body was found lying in a pool of blood with a stab wound in the neck at their home.

The area Chief Dalton Omaye said the missing woman, Everline Otiso, who is the main suspect in the murder quarrelled with the husband over a cow the woman had bought a few weeks ago.

The woman proceeded to pick up a kitchen knife and stab her husband in the neck, killing him on the spot.

The suspect fled the scene fearing the response of the members of the public.

The police revealed that the murder weapon was recovered at the scene, covered in bloodstains. The body was moved to Gucha Private Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.

According to the police, these deaths signal an increase in domestic killings in the country.

Stabbing is said to be the most common mode of killing, according to a report titled Masculinity and Intimate Partner Violence in Kenya.

Kenya has consistently rolled out various initiatives aimed at ending domestic violence, looking to stop the increase of such cases by offering peaceful and amicable ways to solve domestic disputes.

Notably, the country has also enacted laws against domestic violence.
