Machakos governor issues statement after factory fire on Mombasa Road
Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti has stated that a fire inferno destroyed a company along Mombasa Road on the night of Monday, February 2,2,2026.
Confirming the incident on her social media handles on Tuesday,3,2026, the governor has reported that the County Emergency and Disaster Operations Centre responded to the incident after receiving a distress call that there was a fire outbreak at Golden Africa Limited, which is along the Mombasa-Nairobi highway.
“The Machakos County Emergency and Disaster Operations Centre received a distress call at approximately 23:03 hours reporting a fire outbreak at Golden Africa Ltd, along the Nairobi–Mombasa Highway. We swiftly deployed county emergency response teams, responding within the critical golden hour. Our firefighters are being supported by the Nairobi City County Fire Brigade, G4S, and the National Youth Service,” Wavinya said.

According to Wavinya, the response teams from the Machakos County government were immediately deployed to help put out the fire. The firefighters from the Machakos county government, in collaboration with those from the Nairobi County, G4S and the National Youth Service.
Owing to the magnitude of the fire and the scale of the incident, according to Wavinya, the fire transitioned from a typical fire to what she termed an oil-based fire, which made the situation more complex to handle.
“Given the scale of the incident, which has now transitioned from a typical fire to an oil-based fire, response efforts are inherently more complex and require careful management to ensure the safety of both responders and the public, as well as to protect property and salvage valuable assets,” Wavinya added.

The Governor hailed the management of Golden Africa Ltd for their cooperation throughout the response. She assured the public and investors that the Machakos County government remains vigilant and prepared, with the capacity and coordination required to manage emergencies effectively.
