Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and the Linda Mwananchi team have arrived in Bungoma County for the climax of their Western Kenya tour. Crowds lined the roads as the convoy moved from Trans Nzoia into Bungoma on Sunday, 26 July 2026, heading for the main rally at Posta Grounds.

The team spent the previous day in Trans Nzoia. They held a rally in Kitale before attending a church service. On Sunday morning, they stopped in Kiminini, where residents handed over small cash donations directly to Sifuna. From there the caravan crossed into Bungoma, stopping first at Kamukuywa market for a roadside rally, then moving through Kimilili and Chwele before the final gathering in Bungoma town.

At the Kiminini stop and later in Kamukuywa, Sifuna sharpened his attack on President William Ruto’s Affordable Housing programme. He linked the multi-storey buildings to the government’s handling of protests.

“How can he put up a 12-storey building in the village and then instruct the police to shoot us in the leg? How are we supposed to access the buildings? How will we access a storey-building with bullets lodged in our legs?” Sifuna asked the crowd.

He repeated the point later:

“Unajenga affordable housing alafu unapeana ‘shoot-to-leg directive’, tulikuwa tufike aje kwa ghorofa bila mguu?” The senator insisted the movement supports roads, hospitals and stadiums but draws a firm line at violence against young people.

“We do not hate William Ruto. It is he who hates the youth,” he said.

Sifuna questions SHA payments

Sifuna also turned to the Social Health Authority. Speaking in Kamukuywa, he claimed Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka had privately told him that local hospitals had not received SHA payments.

“The treatment is deceiving us that SHA is working. When Governor Lusaka comes to the Senate, he tells me quietly, ‘Sifuna, say SHA has not paid Bungoma hospitals.’ Why don’t you say it yourself?” Sifuna said.

He further accused the national government of starving county budgets. Addressing Governor Lusaka directly, he declared:

“Lusaka kama Governor unajua adui mkubwa wa ugatuzi, yule mtu amekufinyilia kama Governor ni William Ruto.”

Thousands turned out along the route and contributed money towards the movement’s 2027 campaign.
