Legislators now want National Treasury Cabinet Secretary Ukur Yatani to constitute a national committee to undertake an audit of stalled projects after it emerged that various projects worth Sh2.5 billion had stalled.

The legislators want the probe conducted  within the next three months

Lawmakers, who sit in the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chaired by Opiyo Wandayi, said the national committee should formulate a policy framework and strategic measures on financing and completion of all the stalled projects and a report taken  to the National Assembly within six months.

In a report for the financial year 2016/17 tabled in the National Assembly, the committee regretted that the national government had continued to incur huge expenditure for the stalled projects. 

The team also regretted that in some cases payments were made for work not done. 

Projects that have so far stalled include various courts works worth Sh625.6 million, construction of in-block irrigation infrastructure (Sh746.5 million), and projects for accommodating prison staff (Sh876.2 million).

The committee has also expressed concerns that six government departments and ministries have pending bills amounting to Sh12.4 billion.
