Leeds United forward Rodrigo has tested positive for COVID-19 after coming in contact with an infected family member and will miss the team’s crucial Premier League match against Crystal Palace, in a match to be aired live on leading station K24 TV on Saturday afternoon.

The Spain international was not part of the Leeds squad for Monday’s 4-1 Premier League defeat to Leicester City because he was isolating after close contact with a confirmed COVID-19 case.

The 29-year-old has now confirmed he has contracted the coronavirus and will miss the trip to Crystal Palace.

‘Both my family and I feel great, we are lucky enough to feel healthy and we are keeping a positive attitude,’ Rodrigo said in an Instagram post.

In a statement on Monday night Leeds confirmed Rodrigo had been ruled out due to COVID-19 guidance.

‘Rodrigo will miss tonight’s game having been in close contact with a person who has subsequently tested positive for coronavirus,’ said a spokesperson.

‘In line with Premier League and Government guidelines he has to isolate away from the team.’

Rodrigo arrived in the summer from Spanish side Valencia for around £27million.

This will be the first Premier League meeting between Palace and Leeds since January 1998, when Palace lost 2-0 at home.

Leeds enjoy a better head to head record against their hosts as Palace have recorded three wins in their last 10 games against Leeds in all competitions, losing five and drawing two.

Leeds are unbeaten in their last four games against Palace in all competitions where they have won two and drew two.  -AFP
