Kware killings: Collins Jumaisi still missing as Murkomen reveals new theory on his escape
By Mustafa Juma, June 23, 2026Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has revealed that the government’s most wanted fugitive, Collins Jumaisi Khalusha, remains at large nearly two years after his dramatic escape from police custody.
Speaking during a televised interview on a local TV station on the night of Monday, June 22, 2026, Murkomen suggested for the first time that the prime suspect in the Kware killings may have received help from accomplices.
However, Murkomen dismissed claims that state agencies may have aided Jumaisi’s escape, insisting the government had no reason to help a suspect accused of one of Kenya’s most horrifying murder sprees.
“Collins Jumaisi has not been arrested up to now. There is no benefit for the government to assist such a horrible human being who killed innocent women to help him to escape,” Murkomen said.
“He must have perhaps been assisted by his partners in crime. The police are still looking for him. That file will not be closed.”
The remarks revive public attention on a case that shocked the nation in 2024 following the discovery of mutilated bodies at the Kware dumpsite in Nairobi’s Mukuru area.

The Kware killings
Jumaisi, a 33-year-old Nairobi resident, was arrested in July 2024 after investigators linked him to bodies recovered from an abandoned quarry-turned-dumpsite in Kware. At the time, detectives described him as the prime suspect in a string of killings targeting women. Police alleged that he confessed to murdering 42 women between 2022 and July 2024, including his wife, before disposing of their remains at the quarry.
The discovery of multiple dismembered bodies sent shockwaves across Kenya and sparked outrage among residents, human rights groups, and women’s rights activists. Investigators recovered bodies and body parts stuffed in sacks at the dumpsite, while searches at Jumaisi’s residence reportedly yielded mobile phones, identity cards, SIM cards, and other items believed to be relevant to the investigation.
However, the case quickly became controversial after Jumaisi’s legal team claimed his confession had been obtained through torture, allegations that prosecutors denied.
Dramatic escape from Gigiri Police Station
Just weeks after his arrest, the case took another dramatic turn when Jumaisi escaped from custody at Gigiri Police Station.
Authorities said the suspect fled on August 20, 2024, alongside 12 Eritrean nationals who were being held for immigration-related offences. According to police reports, the escapees allegedly cut through a wire mesh in the station’s basking bay before scaling a perimeter wall and disappearing.
The escape triggered a nationwide manhunt and raised serious questions about security within the police service.
At the time, senior police officials suggested the jailbreak may have involved insider assistance. Several officers attached to the station were subsequently arrested and investigated over the incident.
The escape sparked widespread public anger, with many Kenyans questioning how a suspect linked to such serious allegations could flee from a heavily guarded police facility.
Murkomen rejects cover-up claims
Murkomen’s latest comments appear aimed at countering persistent speculation that powerful individuals may have facilitated Jumaisi’s disappearance.
The Interior CS maintained that the government remains committed to finding the fugitive and bringing him before the courts.
His assertion that Jumaisi may have been assisted by “partners in crime” introduces a new angle to the investigation and suggests authorities have not ruled out the possibility that other individuals were involved in the Kware killings or in helping the suspect evade capture.
Despite the passage of time, Murkomen insisted the investigation remains active.
The continued disappearance of Jumaisi remains one of the most troubling unresolved aspects of the Kware killings case.
While police maintain that he was the central suspect in the murders, questions continue to linger over the full circumstances surrounding the killings, the identities of all the victims, and how the suspect managed to evade capture after escaping custody.
