Kuresoi security meeting urges calm, unity amid rising tensions

Police in Kuresoi North have stepped up peace efforts following heightened concerns over community tensions in the region.
On Saturday, July 12, 2025, the Sub-County Police Commander led a high-level peace and security meeting at Chepkinoiyo Trading Centre, bringing together key stakeholders in a bid to reinforce social stability.
According to an official police statement released on Sunday, July 13, 2025, the meeting, described as timely and crucial, sought to address growing unease in parts of Kuresoi North where sporadic disputes, often over land, grazing rights, and inter-community rivalry, have historically flared into violence.
“The local communities were urged to maintain peace, uphold social order, and ensure stability,” read the statement.
The gathering was attended by senior officers from the National Police Service, National Government Administration Officers (NGAOs), local elders, religious leaders, representatives from the business community, and youth leaders, signalling a multi-sectoral approach to addressing security concerns in the area.

The police used the occasion to stress the role of collaboration in safeguarding peace.
“The meeting highlighted the importance of fostering unity, promoting peaceful coexistence, sharing intelligence, and protecting government installations,” the statement added.
While the region has seen periods of calm in recent months, underlying tensions remain a threat to long-term stability. The meeting focused on both preventive and proactive measures, with security officers urging residents to report any suspicious activities and to use dialogue over conflict when resolving local disputes.
The presence of the local business community also underscored the importance of economic stability in peacebuilding. Disruptions to trade and agriculture due to insecurity have previously worsened poverty levels, especially in rural trading centres like Chepkinoiyo.
Community leaders who attended the meeting welcomed the initiative, with several pledging to take the message of peace back to the grassroots. Police emphasised the need for local participation in maintaining order and security.
“The National Police Service reaffirms its commitment to peacebuilding, community engagement, and maintaining law and order,” the statement asserted.
The truce meeting forms part of broader efforts by the police to anchor peace at the grassroots level ahead of anticipated political activities as the 2027 polls draw closer. With security personnel and local leaders now working in tandem, the spotlight remains on implementation and continued community dialogue in the days ahead.
