KMPDU calls for reforms as health crisis in Kiambu persists
The Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) has sided with health providers in Kiambu County, pushing Governor Kimani Wamatangi to resolve the strike that has persisted for four months.
Led by KMPDU Secretary General Davji Bhimji Atellah on Monday, October 13, 2025, the Union has vowed not to relent on their push for better treatment of health workers in Kiambu County amid reported deaths and suffering of patients.
This comes after Kiambu MCAs accused KMPDU of political manipulation amid the healthcare crisis.
”A Call for Justice in Kiambu: Stand Against Injustice To all doctors and citizens of Kiambu County, this is a moment of truth. For months, our doctors have bravely stood their ground, demanding dignity, fair pay, and functional healthcare. Yet, the county’s failure to act has led to an unspeakable tragedy: the loss of over 150 lives,” Atellah said.

”This is not just a strike; it is a moral crisis born of neglect and broken promises. We cannot stay silent as our people perish,” the KMPDU boss added as he joined striking doctors in Kiambu for a peaceful demonstration on Monday morning.
”Not just as an act of solidarity, but as a civic duty. Let our collective voice demand accountability, respect for our healthcare workers, and the restoration of a dignified health system. Show up. Stand up. Speak out,” he said.
Wamuchomba speaks
Meanwhile, Githunguri Member of Parliament Gathoni Wamuchomba has called on Kiambu County leadership to address the ongoing health crisis in the county, following a bitter clash between medical practitioners and the Council of Governors (CoG).
“Health crisis in Kiambu will not be whisked away till a solution is found. I urge Governor Wamatangi to call a meeting for all Kiambu County leaders to deliberate on finding amicable solutions to the ailing health systems urgently,” Wamuchomba took to X on Monday, October 6, 2025.
The lawmaker further said she has been compelled to speak on behalf of mothers in Githunguri who have lost their infants owing to the overstretched doctors’ strike in Kiambu.
“I have taken time to investigate the impact of the failing health systems, and I am willing to go to court to defend my allegations.”
“Mothers in my constituency have lost infants at birth. This is factual. There are mothers in pain. I’m their voice to defend,” she added.
Meanwhile, the Kiambu County health crisis comes at a time when the national government is also grappling with challenges in the entire sector.
