Kirinyaga man dies after stabbing in quarrel over Ksh60
A Christmas Day celebration in Kirinyaga County turned tragic after a man was stabbed to death following a quarrel over Ksh60, witnesses have said.
The incident occurred on Thursday, December 25, 2025, after a dispute over the small debt escalated into a fatal confrontation, with witnesses saying the victim, identified as Mwangi, was stabbed during an altercation with a woman believed to have been his lover.
Eyewitness accounts
Kaburu Gatimu, a relative of the deceased, said they were celebrating Christmas when they heard screams, which alerted them to the unfolding tragedy.
“We were celebrating Christmas as usual when we heard commotion and screams, with women telling us Mwangi had been killed. We came here and indeed found my cousin had been stabbed with a knife. He was lying there as if he had been kneeling,” Gatimu recounted.
Florence Muriithi, another witness to the incident, revealed that the fatal quarrel arose from a dispute over a Ksh60 bill that the victim owed.
“This person had a bill, but it became an argument of ‘Why don’t you pay?’ and I said ‘Aaah.’ It was 60 bob, 60 bob, 30, 30. That’s what caused him to die here,” Muriithi stated.
Another female witness described seeing the two individuals on the ground during the altercation.
“You see, from there I saw them here having fallen down, and I heard Mwangi saying, ‘You have stabbed me with a knife,'” the witness said.
Suspect on the run
According to reports, the woman suspected of carrying out the stabbing fled the scene immediately after the incident.
Police have since launched investigations and are pursuing the individual.
