Kioni mourns late Ol Kalou MP David Kiaraho as a champion of equality
By Ndiritu Wanjiru, March 29, 2026Former Member of Parliament and Deputy Party Leader of the Jubilee Party, Jeremiah Kioni, has mourned the late Olkalou constituency Member of Parliament David Njuguna Kiaraho, describing him as a dedicated leader and advocate for equality.
In a moving message on his X handle on Sunday, March 29, 2026, following Kiaraho’s passing, Kioni expressed deep sorrow at the loss of a colleague and friend, noting that the death of the Ol Kalou MP is a significant blow not only to his family and friends but also to the people of Ol Kalou Constituency and the nation at large.
“Having served alongside him in Parliament, one thing always stood out: Mhesh was a true fighter for equality. Whether it was in education, healthcare, or infrastructure, he firmly believed that every Kenyan deserved equal opportunity, regardless of background, tribe, or place of origin. He carried that conviction with courage and humility,” Kioni stated.

Kioni, who served alongside the late MP in Parliament, recalled Kiaraho as a principled and compassionate leader who consistently championed equal opportunities for all Kenyans. He emphasised that Kiaraho’s legislative and development efforts were driven by a firm belief that access to education, healthcare, and infrastructure should not be determined by one’s background or place of origin.
The former legislator further described Kiaraho as a genuine and humane individual whose commitment to uplifting the lives of his constituents earned him respect across political divides. His passing, Kioni said, leaves a void that will be difficult to fill.
Kiaraho’s death
Kiaraho died at around 1:20 am on Sunday, March 29, 2026, while undergoing treatment at Nairobi Hospital, following a prolonged illness. He had been in and out of the hospital in recent months, seeking medical attention both locally and abroad.
In an official communication issued by the Speaker, Wetang’ula appointed Kinangop MP Kwenya Thuku to chair the funeral preparation committee, with Nyandarua Woman Representative Faith Gitau serving as his deputy. The two will work alongside seven other members to coordinate the arrangements, liaise with the family, and plan a befitting send-off.

“In this regard, I have appointed members to the Funeral Preparation Committee to liaise with the family and coordinate a befitting send-off for the late Hon. Kiaraho. The Member will lead the team for Kinangop, the Hon. Kwenya Thuku, MP, assisted by the Member for Nyandarua, the Hon. Faith Gitau, CBS, MP, and seven (7) other Hon. Members,” Wetang’ula stated.
Kiaraho was serving his third term as a Member of Parliament for Ol Kalou Constituency, having first been elected during the 2013 general elections. In Parliament, he served on the Departmental Committee on Transport and Infrastructure and the Procedure and House Rules Committee, where he contributed to legislative work and oversight. He was among the legislators reelected on a Jubilee Party ticket in the 2022 general elections.
