Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has said the government has ended long-standing discriminatory practices that previously affected residents of Northern Kenya, noting that all Kenyans are now treated equally in the issuance of national documents and access to government services.

Speaking during the 2026 Madaraka Day celebrations at Wajir Stadium on Monday, June 1, 2026, Kindiki said the administration has harmonised government procedures across the country to ensure fairness and equal treatment for all citizens.

Government focus on inclusion

Kindiki said the government has deliberately pursued policies aimed at ending regional disparities, especially in historically marginalized areas such as Northern Kenya.

He added that similar development frameworks are being implemented across the country to ensure consistency in service delivery and national cohesion.

According to him, the presence of national leaders in Wajir for the Madaraka Day celebrations is a strong signal of inclusion and unity.

Praise for infrastructure development

The Deputy President also pointed to ongoing infrastructure projects in the region, saying they are transforming connectivity and improving access to services.

He highlighted road networks linking Northern Kenya to other parts of the country, noting that such projects are key in boosting trade and economic opportunities.

Kindiki further said the government remains committed to completing key development projects, including transport corridors aimed at strengthening regional integration.

Historic Madaraka Day in Wajir

This year’s Madaraka Day celebrations are being held in Wajir County for the first time since independence, marking a historic moment for the Northern Frontier.

The event has attracted senior government officials, county leaders, and thousands of residents, with Wajir Stadium filled to capacity as Kenyans gathered to mark the national holiday.

Leaders have used the occasion to emphasize unity, development, and national cohesion as the country reflects on its journey since attaining self-rule in 1963.
