Deputy President Kithure Kindiki on Sunday, August 17, 2025, led Kenyan leaders in celebrating the Harambee Stars after their crucial 1-0 victory against Zambia in the CHAN group stage.

The victory, which secured Kenya’s place in the quarter-finals, was hailed as a historic moment for the national team, with leaders praising both the players and the technical bench for restoring pride and belief in Kenyan football.

Senate Speaker Amason Kingi joined in celebrating the triumph, applauding the Stars for topping Group A, commonly referred to as the “Group of Death”. He lauded the performance as a display of courage and determination that has redefined Kenya’s football prospects.

“It was delightful watching our heroes, the Harambee Stars, deliver yet another sublime performance that secured a 1-0 win against Zambia! Kenya proceeds to the knockout stage as leaders of Group A – the fancied Group of Death! Hongera, vijana wetu!” Kingi said.

Murkomen

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen also saluted the victory, terming it a phenomenal achievement that has ignited national pride. He pointed out that qualifying for the quarter-finals at home was a significant milestone, especially for a team that had been widely underestimated only weeks earlier.

“What a phenomenal game for Kenya! Asante sana Harambee Stars for once again rising to the occasion and bringing it home. Topping the Group of Death and playing quarter-finals at home is such a big deal, especially since it wasn’t feasible a few weeks ago. Super win for the Harambee Stars today!” Murkomen said.

Gachagua

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua added his voice, calling the win a masterful performance and a bold entry into the knockout stage. He praised the team for making the country proud and for showcasing the true Kenyan spirit on the continental stage.
