Deputy President Kithure Kindiki officially closed the ninth edition of the Devolution Conference that started Wednesday, August 13, 2025, in Homa Bay and ended this Friday, August 15, 2025.

In his closing speech, the DP hailed the three-day event as a successful event, stressing its enormous role in attaining a nation of equity and inclusiveness.

The DP also lauded the massive work done by Governor Gladys Wanga for ensuring the success of the event.

“It is with great optimism that I deliver these remarks at the conclusion of a very successful ninth devolution conference held in this vibrant and beautiful county of Homa Bay. I congratulate Homa Bay for demonstrating the capacity to host a national event with excellence and distinction, having only recently hosted the 2025 Madaraka celebration with the same excellence,” he stated.

He further lauded the various achievements realised through the various deliberations and innovations held throughout the conference.

“This conference comes at an opportune time, resonating with the hopes and dreams of every resident of this county for its testament to its true spirit of devolution and the vision of equal development and opportunity across the length and breadth of this republic of Kenya,” he stated.

“Over the past four days the 9th Devolution Conference has served as a critical policy forum for evidence-based dialogue, peer learning, and stakeholder reflection on the trajectory of Kenya’s devolution agenda. Participants have shared innovations and reaffirmed commitment to embed equity, inclusion, and social justice into the fabric of the devolved government structure:

Government support

The DP concluded by pledging government support to devolution, stressing that the initiative remains a practical and developmental instrument for advancing equity and participatory democracy in Kenya.

“As we conclude this conference, I reaffirm the government’s commitment to strengthening devolution. It remains our most powerful tool for driving inclusion, equity, and social justice for a prosperous Kenya,” he added.

Borrowing from President William Ruto’s opening tough talk on the harrowing effects of corruption in the country, the DP reiterated the collective call to wage a fight against the vice.

Tackling graft

“The threat that we face going into the 21st century is corruption and abuse of resource management for public resources. It affects all arms of government: the executive, the legislature, and the judiciary. No one will be spared. It has permeated into the private sector and the citizenry in our country. Time has come to face head-on the threat of corruption and its dangers to the sustainability of democracy and our country,” he added.
