Kibwana calls for national unity and tribeless identity

Former Makueni County Governor Kivutha Kibwana has called on Kenyans to embrace unity and reject ethnic divisions, saying it is time to build a tribeless nation founded on shared values and mutual respect.
In a powerful message shared via his X account on Saturday, July 12, 2025, Kibwana emphasised the importance of national solidarity and the need to respect all communities in Kenya equally.
“If anybody attacks any ethnic group in Kenya, we are all going to be that ethnic group. All nations of Kenya are equal,” Kibwana stated.
Adding;
“The youth said we must be tribeless but respect positive ethnicity. We must become a nation-state under utu/ubuntu. I am because we are.”

His remarks come at a time when calls for national unity are gaining momentum, especially among the youth, who have become increasingly vocal against tribal politics and divisive governance.
This comes days after Saboti MP Caleb Amisi made similar sentiments in a statement shared on his X account on Tuesday, July 8, 2025.
Amisi urged Kenyans to rise above ethnic boundaries and focus on building a united country.
“Tribal politics is for our parents. We are beyond tribes,” he wrote.
“We don’t know who a Kikuyu is, a Luo, a Kalenjin, a Luhya, a Giriama, a Maasai, a Somali, etc. All we know is that we are one indivisible nation called Kenya, striving to protect, preserve, respect, and honour God’s creation within our humble 582,646 square km territory.”
Amisi further urged citizens to focus their energy on fighting for better leadership instead of accepting both tribalism and poor governance.
“We shall not inherit bad governance and tribalism. We must choose at least one struggle,” he added.
Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma expressed concern over what he sees as the tribal infiltration of the Gen Z protest movement.
In a statement shared on X on Monday, June 23, 2025, Kaluma called on Kenyan youth to reject what he described as chaos and anarchy and instead channel their energy toward national reconstruction.
“The tribalists have taken over ‘Gen Z’ and use it to refer to their youths being used to cause chaos and anarchy,” Kaluma wrote.
Adding:
“Our young people will not join them on Wednesday or in the future. We are busy rebuilding after years of discrimination and neglect.”
