Khaniri raises questions on Jirongo’s death, claims he was not alone in the car
By Kenneth Mwenda, December 30, 2025Former Vihiga Senator George Khaniri has added fresh doubts over the death of former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo, claiming private investigators found evidence that Jirongo was not alone in his car shortly before the fatal crash.
Khaniri spoke during Jirongo’s burial in Lumakanda on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, where several leaders renewed calls for a full forensic investigation into the accident that occurred along the Nakuru–Naivasha highway.
“Sasa, juzi, mimi nimeangalia, kuna private investigators wamekuwa wakichunguza hii maneno,” Khaniri told mourners. “Wamepiga picha zao vizuri zile za CCTV wanafanya analysis.”
He said analysis of CCTV footage from a petrol station in Naivasha showed Jirongo’s car had a passenger in the front seat shortly before the accident.
“Ukiangalia hiyo gari inasemekana ya Jirongo ilipoingia kwa petro station, pale Naivasha, ilikuwa na passenger pale kiti ya mbele. Haikuwa na mtu mmoja,” Khaniri said. “Imefanywa analysis kuna mtu ameketi pale mbele.”
Khaniri questioned why Jirongo was later found alone in the wreckage.
“So wakati inatoka ikapata ajali, huyu mtu mwingine ako wapi? Mbona Jirongo alipatikana peke yake kwa gari?” he asked. “So, there are so many gaps. And we will continue asking these questions. We are demanding for a through forensic investigation.”

Amisi demands accountability
Saboti MP Caleb Amisi also accused the government of silence and demanded political accountability. Amisi told Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi to confront President William Ruto and demand answers over Jirongo’s death.
“Mimi nawaomba wale wako kwa serikali. Mnajua mimi siko huko,” Amisi said at the burial. “Musalia, it is your responsibility to face William Ruto head-on, umwambie atuambie kifo cha Cyrus Jirongo.”
Amisi reminded mourners that Jirongo once confronted the late President Daniel arap Moi to protect Mudavadi’s position in government. He said that history placed a responsibility on Mudavadi to speak out now.
Questions around the crash began days earlier. Former Westlands MP Fred Gumo raised concerns about the bus involved in the accident, saying no passenger had come forward to explain what happened.

Speaking at a memorial service at Jirongo’s Kitale home on Monday, December 29, 2025, Gumo said the silence from passengers did not make sense.
“Kwa maana wananchi wanauliza maswali mingi. It does not add up,” Gumo said.
He noted that the bus was reportedly heading to Busia and likely carried passengers from Western Kenya.
“Na hakuna ata mtu mmoja ametoka akasema alikuwa katika basi ambaye iligongana na gari ingine Naivasha?” he asked.
Gumo also questioned claims that passengers walked away from the scene without seeking help.
“Basi ikigongana watu watatoka nje,” he said. “Na wanasema ati watu walienda, walienda na mguu! Wapi? … What we just want is investigations itoke.”
