The Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA) has announced the temporary closure of the Mugor Bridge along the Kilgoris–Lolgorian Road to facilitate ongoing repair works.

The authority said the closure is necessary to ensure that maintenance activities are carried out safely and effectively while also protecting motorists and construction workers.

Taking it to their X handle on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, KeRRA issued a public notice to road users. KeRRA explained that the repair works are already underway and will affect traffic movement along the busy route that connects Kilgoris and Lolgorian. The bridge serves as an important link for residents, traders, and travellers moving between the two towns and the surrounding areas.

“The Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA) wishes to inform the public that repair works are currently underway,” the KeRRA notice read in part.

KeRRA issues alternative routes

Due to the closure, motorists have been advised to use designated alternative routes while the repairs continue. According to the authority, drivers travelling along the affected corridor can use the following diversions: the Lolgorian–Angaga–Enoosaen–Kilgoris route or the Lolgorian–Kawai–Esoit–Kilgoris route.

These alternative routes are expected to help ease traffic flow and minimise inconvenience during the repair period.

KeRRA noted that the repair works are part of its ongoing efforts to maintain and improve rural road infrastructure across the country. The authority emphasised that such maintenance is essential to ensure road safety, improve accessibility, and support economic activities in rural regions.

The agency also urged road users to remain patient and cooperate with traffic management teams stationed along the diversion routes. Motorists have been encouraged to observe road signs, follow directions from traffic officers, and drive cautiously when using the alternative routes.

KeRRA further advised members of the public to regularly check its official communication channels for updates regarding the progress of the repair works and the eventual reopening of the Mugor Bridge. The authority stated that its regional offices across the country remain available to provide assistance and respond to any enquiries from road users.

The Kenya Rural Roads Authority reaffirmed its commitment to improving road connectivity and infrastructure development throughout rural Kenya. While acknowledging that the temporary closure may cause some inconvenience, KeRRA assured motorists that the repair works are necessary to restore the bridge’s safety and reliability.
