President William Ruto has joined leaders across the country in mourning the late Kilgoris former Member of Parliament, the late Gideon Konchellah, remembering him as a devoted son and a steadfast champion.

Taking to his official X account on Saturday, June 13, 2026, Ruto expressed profound sadness at the passing of the former MP, who also served as a Cabinet Minister.

“It is with profound sorrow that I have learnt of the passing of Hon. Gideon Konchellah, former Member of Parliament for Kilgoris and a distinguished Cabinet Minister,” Ruto stated.

While mourning him, Ruto described Konchellah’s contribution to the Nation for nearly two decades, where he gave himself to the people of Kilgoris.

“He represented with dignity. He understood that public office is, above all, a public trust. His was a life measured not in the years he held office, but in the lives he touched and the faith his people placed in him,”Ruto stated.

“Today, Kenya is the poorer for his loss. Kilgoris mourns a devoted son and a steadfast champion. The nation mourns a leader of his generation,” he added.

The president went on to extend his condolences to his family, his friends, and the people of Kilgoris, whom he loved and served so faithfully.

” I extend my deepest and most heartfelt condolences. May you find comfort in the enduring legacy of his service, and in the knowledge that a grateful nation grieves alongside you. May his soul rest in eternal peace,” Ruto added.

Murkomen’s tribute

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has also joined leaders in mourning the passing of Konchellah, describing him as a man of quiet demeanour.

“I have learnt with profound sadness the passing on of former Cabinet Minister and Kilgoris MP Gideon Sitelu Konchellah.I served with Hon Konchellah in the 11th and 12th Parliaments. A man of quiet demeanour, he was a unifier who worked with MPs across the political divide,” Murkomen stated.

Murkomen went on to mourn Konchellah as a leader who deeply loved his constituents, noting that he will be remembered for fostering peace and cohesion in the cosmopolitan Transmara region.

“My deepest condolences to his family and the people of Kilgoris and Narok County following this immense loss. May Hon Konchellah’s soul rest in eternal peace,” Murkomen stated.

Konchellah’s passing on

Former Kilgoris Member of Parliament (MP) Gideon Konchellah passed away after a prolonged illness, family spokesperson and newly appointed Basic Education Principal Secretary John Ololtuaa has announced.

Speaking on Saturday, June 13, 2026, Ololtuaa said the former legislator died in the early hours of Friday morning at Nairobi Hospital, where he had been receiving treatment.
