KeRRA appoints Jackson Magondu as Director General
The Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA) has appointed Jackson Karubiu Magondu as its new Director General, effective February 17, 2026, for a three-year term renewable once.
The appointment was announced in a press release dated February 17, following a competitive recruitment process conducted by the KeRRA Board of Directors.
Board Chairman Anthony Mwaura Ng’ang’a CBS signed the statement, expressing confidence in Magondu’s leadership as he takes over the role substantively after serving in an acting capacity.
“The Chairman and Board of Directors of the Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA) are pleased to announce the appointment of Eng. Jackson Karubiu Magondu, as the Director General effective 17th February 2026 for a period of three years, renewable once.”
Leadership appointment
According to the board, the selection followed a rigorous exercise in line with public sector recruitment procedures. Magondu has been serving as Acting Director General since July 2025 after the resignation of his predecessor, Philemon Kandie.
His confirmation to the position comes at a time when the authority continues to oversee the development, maintenance and rehabilitation of rural roads across the country. The board noted that his appointment marks continuity in leadership within the institution.

Experience in roads and infrastructure sector
Magondu brings more than 30 years of experience in the roads and infrastructure sector, having served in various technical and leadership roles during his career. He has over 24 years of post-registration experience in highway and road engineering.
He holds a Master’s Degree in Infrastructure Management from Yokohama National University in Japan and a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Nairobi. He has also undertaken several executive and senior management programmes.
Professionally, he is a registered engineer with the Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK), a corporate member of the Institution of Engineers of Kenya (IEK), and a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators in the United Kingdom.
Focus on rural roads development
In its statement, the Board of Directors congratulated Magondu, wishing him “God’s speed” as he steers the Authority into a new chapter focused on constructing rural roads and “Connecting Devolved Kenya.”
KeRRA is mandated to manage, develop and maintain rural road networks, which play a key role in improving connectivity in counties and supporting access to services and economic activities.
The appointment comes amid leadership changes within state agencies in the roads sector as the government continues to implement infrastructure programmes across the country. Stakeholders will be watching how the authority progresses ongoing and planned rural road projects under the new director general’s tenure.
