Kenya set to host continental climate summit in February
Kenya is set to host the Africa Climate Summit (ACS) in February next year, a meeting whose focus is to ensure that Africa’s resources and eco-systems are recognised, valued and managed for the benefit of both the continent and the world.
The summit is scheduled to bring together policy-makers, industry leaders, civil society organisations, and youth representatives. It will also take stock of progress from the Nairobi Declaration made last year, and chart actionable paths forward.
Jacob’s Ladder Africa (JLA), the organisation in charge of coordinating the event said the summit will focus on bridging gaps and advancing the conversation along six tracks. These six pathways are climate adaptation and resilience, youth inclusion, natural capital and asset utilisation, energy transitions, green transitions and industrialisation as well as capital and finance for climate action.
This year’s summit will focus on four of six critical areas including natural capital and assets, energy transitions, green transitions and industrialisation as well as capital and finance for climate.
The Natural Capital and Asset session will focus on ensuring that Africa’s resources and ecosystems are recognised, valued, and managed for the benefit of both Africa and the world.
JLA co-founder and Chief Executive, Sellah Bogonko, explained that the February conference will catalyse change and reflect the outcomes from the Nairobi Declaration, positioning ‘ACS@ONE’ as a pioneering platform for sustained climate progress.
She explained that the summit will also reflect on the actions taken since the 2023 ACS and propose actionable resolutions to ensure that the commitments translate into impactful outcomes.
“As stewards of the next generation, Jacob’s Ladder Africa is committed to ensuring that Africa’s climate commitments translate into actionable, measurable outcomes. Through these thematic pre-convenings, we seek to provide a platform for honest reflection, strategic planning, and impactful collaboration,” she said.
