Kenya receives 40 tonnes of relief aid for flood victims from UAE
Kenya has received a substantial donation of relief aid from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to assist families affected by the devastating floods that have recently swept across the country.
The consignment, weighing 40 tonnes and comprising both food and non-food items, was delivered by the UAE Ambassador to Kenya, Dr Salim Ahmed Al-Naqbi, in a ceremony attended by Cabinet Secretary Penina Malonza, who oversees the Ministry of East African Community (EAC), Arid and Semi-Arid Lands, and Regional Development.
The aid, which began arriving in the country yesterday, is a crucial lifeline for many families who have been displaced or are struggling due to the floods.
Speaking at the reception ceremony at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), CS Malonza expressed her gratitude for the generous donation, stating that the relief items would be distributed to the flood victims across the country starting next week.
She said once the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) clears the cargo, the items will be handed over to the Kenya Red Cross and other relevant agencies that will identify the victims and begin distribution.
“We will make sure that all people affected by floods get the relief food and non-food stuff from next week. We have two other consignments of food and non-food stuffs that we are expecting to arrive in the country tomorrow Saturday,” she said.
While highlighting the importance of collective support during times of crisis Deputy Government Spokesperson Mwanaisha Chidzuga, noted “We appreciate all the UAE partners for assisting us with the food consignments, and we call upon other well-wishers to assist the victims.”

The relief items include essential supplies such as sugar, rice, tomato paste, milk powder, salt, and wheat flour, among others.
The donation comes as a significant relief for the affected families, many of whom have lost their homes and livelihoods due to the floods.
As the relief efforts continue, authorities urge Kenyans to stay safe and heed government alerts to ensure their well-being.
The government has also appealed to Kenyans to assist their fellow citizens who are in need, demonstrating the spirit of unity and compassion in the face of adversity.
