Kenya reaffirms health security commitment as Africa CDC steps up Ebola response
Kenya has reaffirmed its commitment to regional health security and coordinated disease response efforts as Eastern Africa grapples with an ongoing Ebola outbreak affecting parts of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda.
This follows discussions with the Director General of the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention), Dr. Jean Kaseya, who provided an update on the current epidemiological situation and multi-agency response measures.

According to a statement by Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, Kaseya said the response is being strengthened through joint action by African governments and global health partners, including the World Health Organization.
“The interventions include enhanced disease surveillance, contact tracing, laboratory diagnostics, infection prevention measures, border health monitoring and community awareness campaigns aimed at preventing further cross-border transmission,” he said.
Coordination efforts
Mudavadi noted that Kenya welcomed the ongoing coordination efforts, reaffirming its preparedness to safeguard public health.

“I welcomed the ongoing efforts by Africa CDC and reaffirmed Kenya’s commitment to regional health security and collective action in responding to public health emergencies,”
“I also shared Kenya’s preparedness measures, including strengthening of national surveillance and emergency response systems to safeguard public health and regional resilience,” Mudavadi added.
Ebola facility protest
This comes as a section of activists staged protests outside Afya House in Nairobi on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, opposing the government’s plans to establish an Ebola quarantine facility in Kenya.

Led by activists Ojilo Odhiambo and Julius Kamau, the activists marched outside Afya House in Nairobi on Tuesday, June 1, 2026, arguing that the proposed facility could expose Kenyans to the risk of contracting the deadly Ebola virus and should not be allowed to proceed.
Speaking during the demonstration, Ojilo vowed to oppose what he described as attempts by President William Ruto’s administration to establish a quarantine centre in the country.
“We are going to resist every step and mechanism by William Ruto to establish a quarantine centre in Kenya,” Ojilo said.
