Kenya Power: Parts of Nairobi to experience blackout on Monday, November 3
Kenya Power has announced a planned power maintenance exercise that will affect parts of Nairobi on Monday, November 3, 2025. The company said the interruption is part of ongoing efforts to improve electricity supply reliability and carry out essential network upgrades.
The outage will run from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm and will affect several locations along and around Arwings Kodhek Road.
Areas listed for the blackout include part of Arwings Kodhek, Ralph Bunche Road, Nelson Awour Centre, Nairobi Hospital, Landmark Plaza, Lee Funeral Home, Upper Hill Medical Hospital, University of Nairobi Dental School, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th Ngong Avenues, The Chancery Building, Bishops Road, Sarova Panafric Hotel, Fairview Hotel and surrounding premises.
Businesses, hospitals, schools, hotels and offices in Upper Hill and Kilimani are likely to be among those affected. Kenya Power urged customers in the listed areas to make prior arrangements and to treat all electrical appliances as live during the maintenance hours.

More users, more demand
The planned works come as the utility company continues to manage rising electricity demand across the country. In July 2025, Kenya Power reported a record peak load of 2,362.28 megawatts, driven by cold weather and increasing customer connections.
The company linked the spike in power use to more Kenyans turning on heaters and other appliances to keep warm during the cold season, alongside growth in new connections and electrification programmes.
During the financial year ending June 2025, the company connected more than 400,000 new customers, and it expects demand to keep rising as it expands access to power in both households and businesses.
At the same time, weather forecasts point to continued rainfall and thunderstorms across many parts of Kenya, including Nairobi.
The Kenya Meteorological Department has warned that the ongoing short rains, which typically peak between October and December, are likely to bring cloudy mornings, afternoon showers and possible localised flooding in the capital. Residents have been advised to plan travel early and take necessary precautions.
With wet conditions expected to persist and electricity use remaining high, Kenya Power has continued scheduled maintenance in key supply zones as part of measures to stabilise the grid and minimise unplanned outages.
