Kenya Power lists areas to experience blackout on Wednesday, April 22
Kenya Power has announced planned maintenance that will lead to power interruptions in several parts of the country on Wednesday, April 22, 2026.
In a statement posted on its official X account on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, the utility firm said the maintenance is part of routine work aimed at improving service delivery and reliability of supply.
“Good evening. Kindly note that the following areas will be on planned maintenance tomorrow, Wednesday, 22/04/2026,” Kenya Power stated.
The company added that customers can access updates and support services through its chatbot. “For real-time updates, outage status, billing requests, token-related issues, and other self-service options, please visit our chatbot,” the statement read.
In the Nairobi Region, several areas will be affected between 9.00 am and 5.00 pm. These include Uhuru Camp, Mbagathi, Akila Estate, Texas Cancer Centre, Qwetu Hostels, Funguo Estate, parts of Langata Road, Bible Society, parts of Madaraka, and House of Grace.
Lower Kabete will also experience an interruption during the same hours. Affected areas include Lower Kabete Road, University of Nairobi Lower Kabete Campus, Kenya School of Government, Lower Kabete Primary School, Peponi School, Farasi Primary, Mwimuto, New Kitsuru, Kitsuru Spring Estates and Gituamba.

North Rift outages
In the North Rift Region, parts of Uasin Gishu County will be affected. These include Reale Hospital, Boma Inn and Top Hill Hospital between 9.00 a.m. and 5.00 p.m. Simbi and Kaptebengwet areas will also experience a blackout from 10.00 am to 5.00 pm.
In the Western Region, parts of Bungoma County will face interruptions from 8.30 am to 5.30 pm. The affected areas include Malava Market, Malava District Hospital, Samitsi, Kalenda, Shirugu, West Kenya Sugar Company, Shamberere National Polytechnic and surrounding areas.
South Nyanza Region will also be affected in Kisii County. Kenya Power listed areas such as Ibencho, Nyamasege, Nyansakia and Magena, with power expected to be off from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm.
In the Mount Kenya Region, Nyeri County will see outages in Tumutumu, Wakamata, Kiangoma and Mweiga Blooms areas. These interruptions are scheduled between 8.00 am and 5.00 pm.
Parts of Laikipia County, including Thome and Matanya, will also experience planned maintenance during the same period.
In the North Eastern Region, Kitui County will be affected in areas such as Zombe, Mwitika, Kikuu and surrounding markets. Other sections, including Kiambere and Tseikuru will also face interruptions.
Kenya Power has in recent months increased scheduled maintenance in different regions, saying the exercise is necessary to improve network stability and reduce unplanned outages. For instance, on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, a blackout affected parts of five regions.
In a notice issued on Monday, April 20, 2026, evening, the company said the outages will take place across five regions, including Nairobi, North Rift, Western, Mt. Kenya, and North Eastern.
