Kenya Power lists areas to experience blackout on Monday, March 30

Kenya Power has announced a planned power maintenance exercise that will see several regions across the country experience electricity outages on Monday, March 30, 2026.

In a public notice issued on Sunday, March 29, 2026, the utility company said the scheduled interruptions are part of routine maintenance aimed at improving service delivery and stabilising the power network.

The outages will run from 9:00 a.m to 5:00 p.m in affected areas.

Uasin Gishu County

Areas around Boma Inn and Top Hill in Uasin Gishu County will be affected during the maintenance period.

Key institutions and customers expected to experience outages include Boma Inn, Top Hill Hospital, and surrounding residential and commercial premises.

Nyeri County

Several parts of Nyeri County are also scheduled for a power interruption.

Mukangu Area will be the most hit, with Mukangu Dispensary, Mukangu Primary and Secondary Schools, Mukangu Market and Coffee Factory, Safaricom and Airtel booster stations, being part of the facilities set to be affected.

Areas around Dedan Kimathi University of Science and Technology will also face outages, including Hill Farm, Kwa Nduta and Kahawa Ridge, Muringato Forest Station, Sunrise Hostels and Bomas, and Kabiruini ASK Grounds.

Kiambu County

In Kiambu County, a wide section covering Ngethu, Mataara, and Kamwangi will be affected.

Notable facilities include Ngethu Water Treatment Plant, Gathugu, Gituamba, and Gakoe markets, Mataara and Nduti factories, Several schools including Mururia High and Karinga Girls, Kigoro Water and Gatanga Water installations, and Numerous shopping centres and residential areas.

Blackouts

According to the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA), Kenyans face an average of 8.39 hours of blackouts each month.

The regulator said the figure, although slightly improved from 9.15 hours recorded earlier, still falls short of its target.

“In the period under review, customers’ outage durations reduced to an average of 8.39 hours per month,” EPRA noted in its latest report.
