Kenya deploys 230 elite officers to boost Haiti security mission
By Kiprono Keileb, December 9, 2025Kenya has sent another contingent of police officers to Haiti as part of the multinational effort to stabilise the violence-hit Caribbean nation.
The latest deployment comprising 230 elite National Police Service (NPS) officers was flagged off on Saturday in a ceremony led by National Security Advisor Ambassador Monica Juma.
According to a statement shared by NPS on X on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, NPS said the team will reinforce Kenyan officers already on the ground under the Gang Suppression Force (GSF), joining personnel from Jamaica, Guatemala, El Salvador, the Bahamas, and Belize. Kenya remains the leading country in the multinational mission.

In a message delivered during the ceremony, Juma urged the officers to uphold discipline, professionalism and the values of the service, reminding them that they carry Kenya’s image beyond its borders.
“A contingent of 230 elite National Police Service (NPS) officers was officially flagged off yesterday by the National Security Advisor (NSA), Ambassador Monica Juma, to join the Gang Suppression Force (GSF) in Haiti,” NPS said.
She was accompanied by senior police leaders, including Deputy Inspector General of the Kenya Police Service, Eliud Lagat, and Deputy Inspector General of the Administration Police Service, Gilbert Masengeli. The officers drawn from specialised formations will be deployed to support security operations in gang-controlled zones.
Monica Juma also shared a message of support from President William Ruto.

“Monica Juma conveyed a message of goodwill from President William Samoei Ruto. She encouraged the deploying officers to be exemplary ambassadors and praised the substantial progress already made in Haiti,” the statement added.
According to NPS, Kenyan officers already in Haiti have been conducting joint patrols with the Haitian National Police in areas such as Downtown Port-au-Prince, Ganthier, and Delmas, which have been some of the hardest hit by gang violence. Authorities say these operations have improved stability and led to arrests of gang members.

“She noted that joint patrols with the Haitian National Police (HNP) have successfully increased stability and led to arrests in gang-controlled areas such as Downtown Port-au-Prince, Ganthier, and Delmas,” the statement reads.
The deployment marks another significant step in Kenya’s commitment to the UN-endorsed security mission, despite ongoing public debate at home over the safety of officers and the scale of Kenya’s involvement in Haiti’s crisis.
