Kenya, Czech Republic seal new defence deal to boost military partnership
Kenya and the Czech Republic have signed a new defence cooperation agreement aimed at strengthening military ties between the two countries, at a time when regional and global security challenges continue to evolve.
In a statement shared on X on Thursday, January 29, 2026, KDF said the agreement was signed at the Defence Headquarters in Nairobi. The deal outlines how the two nations will work together on defence matters, including training, security operations, and information sharing.

The agreement was signed by Defence Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya and the Czech Republic’s Ambassador to Kenya, Nicol Adamcová, marking a key moment in the long-standing relationship between Nairobi and Prague. According to the KDF, the pact creates a clear framework to guide cooperation between the two defence institutions and deepen existing partnerships built over several years.
In its statement, the Kenya Defence Forces explained the significance of the agreement and the setting in which it was concluded.
“Kenya and the Czech Republic on 28th Jan 2026 took a significant step toward deepening their longstanding bilateral defence relations following the signing of a Defence Cooperation Agreement (DCA) at the Defence Headquarters in Nairobi,” the statement reads
The KDF further outlined who signed the agreement and what the new framework is meant to achieve.

“The agreement was signed by the Cabinet Secretary for Defence, Soipan Tuya and the Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Kenya, Her Excellency Nicol Adamcova. The DCA establishes a structured and comprehensive framework to guide enhanced cooperation between the two nations’ defence establishments,” part of the KDF statement reads.
The statement also detailed the areas that the two countries will focus on under the agreement, touching on both traditional and emerging security concerns.
“Under the agreement, Kenya and the Czech Republic will collaborate in key priority areas including military education and training, peacekeeping and peace support operations, intelligence and information sharing, maritime security, cybersecurity, humanitarian assistance and disaster response,” the statement reads.
During the signing ceremony, Defence CS Soipan Tuya acknowledged the Czech Republic’s past role in supporting Kenya’s military capacity, particularly in specialised training.

“Speaking during the signing ceremony, Soipan Tuya commended the Czech Republic for its sustained support to the KDF, particularly in the training and capacity development of KDF Special Forces. She noted that this cooperation has had a positive impact on Kenya’s internal security and has contributed significantly to regional stability,” the statement reads.
On her part, Ambassador Adamcová reaffirmed her country’s commitment to continued cooperation with Kenya, highlighting shared values and long-term goals.
“Her Excellency Ambassador Nicol Adamcová reaffirmed the Czech Republic’s commitment to a strong and enduring partnership with Kenya. She emphasised the shared values and mutual interests that underpin defence cooperation between the two countries and underscored the role of sustained military-to-military engagement in advancing peace, security and stability at both regional and global levels,” the statement reads.

The event was attended by senior military and diplomatic officials from both countries, reflecting the importance attached to the agreement.
“The signing ceremony was witnessed by the Assistant Chief of the Defence Forces in charge of Operations, Plans, Doctrine and Training (OPD&T), Major General Fredrick Leuria. Ambassador Adamcová was accompanied by Stella Mokaya, Kenya’s Ambassador to the Czech Republic, as well as the Czech Military and Air Attaché, Lieutenant Colonel Bonvoj Jurenka,” the statement reads.
