Kenya Airways announces departure delays from JKIA

Kenya Airways (KQ) has announced some delays in the departures from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) in Nairobi.

The national carrier in a statement issued on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, notified their customers to plan accordingly.

Roads closure

KQ in the statement said that the delays have been caused by the closure of some roads in Nairobi, which has impacted both their crew and customers.

“We wish to advise our customers to expect some delays in departures out of Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport TODAY (02 July 2024) due to some road closures that have impacted both our crew and customers,” KQ announced.

The affected customers, KQ says, will be communicated to directly on the changes to their flight schedules.

Extra time

The customers en route to JKIA have been advised to plan for extra time, at least four hours before the scheduled flight departure time.

KQ has further urged the affected customers to directly contact them via their official phone numbers, WhatsApp contacts, email and official X support account.

“Impacted customers will be communicated to directly on the changes to their flight schedules. Customers are advised to plan for extra time en route to the airport at least four (4) hours before the scheduled flight departure time. The Tuesday, July 2, 2024, protests saw several roads connecting Nairobi Central Business District (CBD) to various parts affected.

Protesters barricaded the roads using boulders, with some lighting bonfires.

For instance, Waiyaki Way was blocked with boulders in Kangemi area as the protesters engaged in running battles with the police.

Protesters also blocked Outering Road at Fedha and Tassia areas. Outering is one of the key roads that connects motorists to JKIA.

Protesters also blocked Mombasa Road at Mlolongo and Emali. At Mlolongo, a section of the protesters were captured vandalizing the Nairobi Express Way.

Namanga Road was also impassable at Kitengela as protesters took to the streets to demonstrate against the government.

The protesters in Kitengela blocked the busy Namanga Road by lighting bonfires and barricading it with boulders.
