KeNHA alerts motorists to avoid flooded Eldama Ravine-Maji Mazuri-Molo route
Motorists have been warned to avoid the Eldama Ravine-Maji Mazuri-Molo Road as Molo River floods trigger road closures.
In a notice on Sunday, March 22, 2026, the Kenya National Highway Authority (KeNHA) advised motorists using the route to exercise extreme caution and adhere to instructions from police officers and traffic marshals stationed at the site.
“The situation has been occasioned by heavy rainfall in the upstream catchment areas, resulting in a significant rise in water levels,” the notice read.
“KeNHA is closely monitoring the situation and will take appropriate action should water levels continue to rise. The Authority appreciates your cooperation as we work to ensure the safety of all road users.”
Motorists have also been encouraged to consider using alternative routes, including Eldama Ravine-Mogotio-Salgaa-Nakuru, Eldama Ravine-Kabarnet-Marigat-Mogotio, and Nakuru-Salgaa-Ravine for those approaching from Nakuru.
The authority has also assured that it will implement additional measures to ensure safety along the route if water levels continue to rise.

The alert comes amid persistent heavy rains sweeping across the country, causing widespread flooding, making several roads impassable, and forcing families to relocate to numerous towns and cities.
The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) forecasts that these heavy rains will continue nationwide until Tuesday, March 24, 2026.
The advisory highlights that Central Kenya, the Lake Victoria Basin, Western Kenya, the Rift Valley, Southeastern lowlands, the Coast, and Northern Kenya will experience significant rainfall.
In Nairobi, the capital’s metropolitan area, already heavily impacted by flooding, residents in Dagoretti, Kibra, Embakasi, and Langata should expect moderate to heavy downpours over the coming days.

The weatherman has forecasted rainfall in parts of Kiambu County, including Gatundu North, Limuru, Kikuyu, and Kabete, with showers expected to continue through the weekend.
Following the heavy rains, the Water Resources Authority (WRA) issued an urgent evacuation notice on Friday, March 20, 2026, for residents living near Nairobi Dam in six Nairobi estates.
Authorities warned that the dam, situated in Kibera along the Ngong River, poses a risk of breaching its embankments. Residents in Kibera, Nyayo Highrise, Dam Estate, Lang’ata, Nairobi West, and Madaraka are urged to move to higher ground immediately.
Other vulnerable areas include Mukuru Slums (Kwa Njenga, Reuben, and Viwandani), South B, Pipeline, Embakasi, and the Industrial Area, which may also experience flooding due to the ongoing downpours.
