KDF to construct road link in Thika

In a significant move towards addressing long-standing movement challenges for residents of Thika, the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) has embarked on a mission to put up a 2.4-kilometre road linking Jerusalem and Kamagambo villages with the busy Thika-Garissa Road.
The initiative is hoped to ease movement of goods and people who have over the years struggled to move their farm produce to the market due to the deplorable state of the road.
Speaking during the launch of projects that the military has undertaken to pursue ahead of the KDF Day at Thika Garrisons, Brigadier Victor Mburu revealed that the road will be upgraded to motorable standards to end locals’ woes.
The move, he revealed will spur social-economic growth in the semi-arid area of Gatuanyaga Ward, Mburu noted that rehabilitation of the road to murram standards will open up the region for investments and settlement by land owners who have for years shied from developing their parcels due to inaccessibility.
“We will do the murruming, the grading and compaction to ensure we better the lives of the community around us,” stated Mburu. He noted that another stretch within the same community will be built in a new bid to improve the living standards of locals.
His sentiments were echoed by brigadier Joseph Mutua who insisted that the road rehabilitation works will include installation of modern drainage systems that will allow a seamless flow of water during rains to cushion locals from disastrous floods.
