KDF plane crash: Soipan vows to share full information on what transpired
By Lutta Njomo, June 15, 2025Cabinet Secretary in the Ministry of Defence, Soipan Tuya, has vowed to furnish the country with full information on what exactly caused the Kenya Air Force plane crash in Viramboni village, Ndavaya, Kwale County.
In a statement issued late on Saturday, June 14, 2025, CS Tuya explained that she had been briefed about the accident, where she confirmed that the aircraft, a Grob 120A model, crashed.
However, she assured the public that full information would be shared in due course.

“I have been briefed on the aviation accident involving a Kenya Air Force (KAF) Grob 120A aircraft that occurred this afternoon while on a training flight in Kwale County,” Tuya’s statement read in part.
“We will share more details on the unfortunate incident in due course,” it added.

KDF statement
In their preliminary statement, the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) confirmed the accident, stating that the plane experienced an emergency, which they did not specify.
KDF only indicated that the plane was on a training flight with two pilots.

“Earlier today, 14th June 2025, a Kenya Air Force Grob 120A aircraft experienced an emergency while on a training flight in the general area of Mwakijembe Primary School, Ndavaya, Kwale County. On board were two pilots. Recovery is ongoing,” KDF shared on X.
KDF did not immediately reveal the status of the two pilots who were on board the aircraft.
From photos captured of the incident, the plane appeared completely disintegrated, with its roof completely detached. The front section appeared completely damaged compared with the plane’s tail.
The scene of the crash in Kwale County was an open field with vegetation, depicting the impact of the accident.
