KDF outlines gains made in ongoing Operation Okoa Boni Forest
The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) has listed securing the troubled Boni Forest region in Lamu County from the threat of Al-Shabab among the recent gains of the military troops deployed under Operation Amani Boni (OAB) in the region.
Speaking on November 8, 2025, during a tour of the enclave to assess the operational readiness, Brigadier Meshack Kishoyian, the Commander of the 6th Brigade (6 BDE), revealed that the mission has been instrumental in disrupting Al-Shabaab networks.
Kishoyan observed that through coordination with security agencies under the multi-agency framework, the troops have been able to disrupt Al-Shabaab networks, denying the enemy freedom of movement, and securing critical national development corridors, including the LAPSSET infrastructure.
Lasting peace
While lauding their discipline, resilience, and teamwork in maintaining security within a complex and demanding environment, the brigadier also challenged the soldiers to remain focused, alert, and mission-driven.
The visit, which covered multiple Forward Operating Bases (FOBs), also provided an opportunity to evaluate the effectiveness of ongoing security operations.
Kishoyian concluded by assuring the troops of the Command’s continued support in providing the necessary resources and logistics to sustain momentum and advance the overall mission of Operation Amani Boni, which aims to restore lasting peace and stability within the Boni enclave and its environs.

The brigadier’s visit comes barely a week after the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Administration Police Service (APS), Gilbert Masengeli, toured the Kenya Navy Base (KNB) Manda Bay on Friday, 31 October 2025.
Masengeli evaluated the performance, coordination, and welfare of the multi-agency security personnel deployed in the area.
Masengeli’s visit
He commended the joint security forces for their dedication, discipline, and teamwork. He further reaffirmed the National Police Service leadership’s unwavering commitment to providing the necessary support to all deployed personnel and to strengthening inter-agency cooperation in the ongoing fight against terrorism.
“The unwavering dedication and selfless sacrifice of our multi-agency security teams embody the highest ideals of service to the nation. Their courage in the face of adversity continues to inspire confidence and pride.”
“The government remains resolute in ensuring they receive every form of support necessary to sustain peace, safeguard our people, and secure lasting stability across this region,” he affirmed.
The DIG was accompanied by the Commander, Special Operations Forces Command (SOFC), Brigadier John Njeru.
