KCAA grounds Silverstone Air’s Dash 8 series
Silverstone Air’s Dash 8 series has been suspended by Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) for a week.
The troubled carrier will be without the planes until the authority finalizes a surveillance on the carrier’s services.
KCAA says after a review of the aircrafts’ safety systems, management and operational control systems and airworthiness related programmes, they considered the series unfit for operations.
“Silverstone Air Services is in breach of several 2018 civil aviation regulations,” said KCAA in a statement.
The regulator further instituted a comprehensive investigation over operations and activities to determine the firm’s suitability in doing commercial aviation activities.
Silverstone has a right to appeal the provisional suspension which is for seven days effective Tuesday, November 12, with all Dash 8 series remaining suspended.
Silverstone Air’s aircraft have been operating from Wilson Airport in Nairobi since 2017, but has since reduced it’s operations on several routes including Homa Bay in a move that slows down its aggressive expansion plans.
The carrier has been reducing its frequencies at a time the authority has opened an audit to determine the safety and compliance of the airline following a mid-air scare when one of its planes dropped a tyre while taking off in Lodwar.
Early this month, another one of Silverstone’s aircraft veered off the runway at Wilson Airport causing panic and cancellation of flights by concerned customers.
