Karungo Thang’wa dissociates himself from Kahiga’s remarks on Raila Odinga’s death
Kiambu Senator Karungo Wa Thang’wa has dissociated himself from the remarks made by Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga, where he was captured celebrating Raila Odinga’s death as God-sent.
In a statement on his X page on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, the senator stated that certain individuals had stoked the governor to elicit a reaction from them.
Karungo, who has previously defended his Democracy for Citizens Party Leader Rigathi Gachagua’s silence after Raila Odinga’s death, accused certain individuals of orchestrating the governor’s remarks.

“When I said, “Sometimes silence is not absence. Sometimes, it’s leadership.” I meant it! To make us talk, they have unleashed their GENERAL BLABLA, who is on Githinji’s payroll. But, we will maintain our silence since we are still in Tero Buru!,” he stated.
His condemnation comes after the Council of Governors (CoG), which Kahiga leads, came out to vehemently castigate the Mt Kenya leader.
In a statement dated October 21, 2025, and signed by CoG Chairperson Ahmed Abdullahi, the council dissociated itself from Kahiga’s comments, emphasising that they were his personal views and did not reflect the collective position of county chiefs.
Inhumane
“Today, the Council of Governors registers its deep disappointment with the unfortunate utterances by Governor Kahiga Mutahi of Nyeri County,” Abdullahi said. “We wish to disassociate in toto with the sentiments of Governor Kahiga and note that those are personal remarks that do not reflect or represent the views of the Council of Governors, especially at this time of deep mourning.”
The council condemned Kahiga’s statement as “inhumane and unacceptable”, saying it was wrong to “celebrate” the passing of a leader who contributed immensely to Kenya’s democratic and developmental history.
Retired Chief Justice David Maraga, ODM Deputy Leader Abdulswamad Nassir, and Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru are among the other host of leaders who have registered their condemnation of the sentiments from the governor.
