The East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) Member of Parliament Kanini Kega has emotionally mourned his mother, the late Ann Nyatoro Ndung’u, describing her as a devoted woman who dedicated her life to her family, community, and the church during a burial service held in Kega, Kieni Constituency, in Nyeri County.

Speaking during the emotional ceremony attended by family, friends, political leaders, and residents on Thursday, May 14, 2026, the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) MP said his mother lived a fulfilled and meaningful life centred on service and love for others.

“She was whole; she was faithful to her family and her community, and she was faithful to the church,” he said.

The East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) Member of Parliament was emotional about his relationship with his mother, saying he finds peace when he knows that he did all he could for her during her lifetime.

“While my mother is lying here, I don’t feel bad about what I didn’t do to her and what I should have done,” Kega said.

The MP’s mother, Mama Ann Nyatoro Ndung’u, passed on on Friday, May 8, 2026, without divulging much detail to the MP, Kanini Kega, confirming her death.

“I am devastated and heartbroken! It is well with my soul; however, it is difficult to believe that my mother has rested. It’s painful,” Kega stated.

Gachagua mourns Kanini’s mother

In a statement, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua revealed that Kega received the news after landing in the United Kingdom, where he went ahead of Gachagua’s visit.

“It is with profound sadness that I have learnt of the passing of Mama Ann Nyatoro Ndung’u, mother of EALA MP Hon. Kanini Kega, early today,” Gachagua stated.

“It was only yesterday that I gave you an assignment to the United Kingdom as my younger brother, only for you to arrive and receive the sad news. Please accept my sincere condolences at this difficult moment. To the larger family of Simon Ndung’u Mutitu, your friends and relatives, I pray for you during this difficult moment,” Gachagua said.

The former deputy president, Rigathi Gachagua, and Nairobi senator Edwin Sifuna are among leaders who have joined the former Kieni member of parliament at the burial ceremony of her mother.
