Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has intensified his charm offensive in his Ukambani background, where he criticised the policies of President William Ruto’s Government and promised radical reforms should the opposition ascend to power.

At a public rally in Matuu, Machakos County on May 30, 2025, Kalonzo, who was accompanied by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and allies of both leaders, highlighted economic hardships, inability to account for public funds and unemployment among the youth, which he claimed had tainted President William Ruto’s administration.

Kalonzo cited the loss of public resources through graft and reiterated that the new Opposition grouping is committed to eradicating corruption.

“We must stop the theft of public funds and corruption, which can only end by voting this government out of office,” declared Kalonzo.

He hit out at high-ranking government officials for using money from public coffers to woo Kenyans to support them, while development projects have stalled across the country for lack of funds.

“When they come for political meetings and they give you money, just take and ask for more, because those handouts signify a refund of embezzled public resources,” Kalonzo said.

His sentiment appeared to be openly directed to Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, who, in the recent past, has been dishing out money to Kenyans under the economic empowerment programme.

Kalonzo also directed his attack on the government for failing to compensate the youth who were affected by police brutality during the Gen-Z protests last year.

The leader said that the families of the victims have never recovered from the emotional distress that they suffered, adding that Ruto’s apology to them exacerbated the pain of their loss.

“Rex Masai was killed by a bullet fired by a police officer still serving in the government. The apology was half-hearted. The youth have rejected his apology,” a leader stated, demanding that “compensation must be paid to all the Gen-Z that lost their lives and were brutalised by the police.” Kalonzo said.

Additionally, the former Azimio alliance co-principal lamented as a misplaced priority the construction of affordable houses, faulting the government for engaging in projects that were supposed to be undertaken by the private sector.
