Ol Kalou residents have received fishing equipment aimed at creating jobs and expanding economic opportunities around Lake Olobolosat ahead of the annual Lake Olobolosat Cultural Festival.

In a statement on his X account on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, Former Trade Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria said the initiative seeks to empower young people by providing them with tools to engage in fishing and aquaculture as a sustainable source of income.

The equipment distributed included fingerlings, fish cages, fishing nets, and fishing boats.

“We have distributed fishing gear, including fingerlings, cages, fishing nets and fishing boats, to help our young people tap into the economic opportunities at Lake Olobolosat and earn a decent livelihood,” Kuria said.

Addressing unemployment issue

Kuria added that the programme is intended to tackle youth unemployment by equipping young people with the resources needed to start businesses and support their families.

“Our commitment is simple: create opportunities and reduce idleness amongst our youths. When young people are equipped with the right tools, they can build businesses and create jobs which will support their families,” Kuria stated.

Addressing criticism on social media that the team had delivered a speedboat, the leaders dismissed the claims, saying the focus should be on the economic impact of the project.

“Some have chosen to joke that we were delivering a speedboat but they have missed the point. The real message is that we are speeding up development and delivering solutions that our people have waited for for years,” Kuria said.

The former CS also praised Ol Kalou MP UDA aspirant Samuel Muchina, saying he had worked closely with the national government to secure development projects for the constituency.

He urged residents and visitors to attend the annual Lake Olobolosat Cultural Festival, which will take place from July 10 to 13, 2026 at the Ol Kalou TVC Grounds in Rurii Ward.

“Samuel Muchina has demonstrated that he understands how to work with the national government to bring meaningful development that transforms lives.”
