Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka has drawn a direct link between the tragic killing of Rex Masai and what he describes as a revolution by Kenyan millennials that reshaped the country’s democratic path.

Speaking after attending a church service at AIC Kasina in Mlolongo on Sunday, September 7, 2025, Kalonzo reflected on how the youth’s courage and sacrifices, exemplified by Rex Masai, altered Kenya’s history in a defining way.

Kalonzo began by drawing parallels between Kenya’s youth and Carlo Acutis, a 15-year-old Italian teenager canonised by the Catholic Church for using technology to spread faith before his death from leukaemia.

“Today, the young millennials of our world were honoured with the canonisation of Carlo Acutis by the Catholic Church. Carlo, who tragically died at the age of 15, having battled leukaemia, was known as God’s Influencer and devoted his life to sharing his love of Jesus through technology. Also fondly called the Patron Saint of the Internet, Carlo changed the history of faith for millennials,” Kalonzo said.

He then connected Carlo’s global story of influence to Kenya’s own journey of sacrifice and transformation led by young people.

“Our young millennials, like Carlo, changed the history of Kenya forever, and that revolution started here in Mlolongo with the shooting of Rex Masai because he dared to exercise his constitutional rights,” he stated.

Honouring Rex Masai’s legacy

For Kalonzo, the killing of Rex Masai in Nairobi is more than a personal tragedy; it symbolises the broader fight for freedoms and justice. His words framed Rex’s death as a rallying moment for the youth, whose resilience he believes has been central in redefining Kenya’s political and social order.

He told the congregation that worshipping at Kasina was especially significant given its location in Mlolongo, where Rex was gunned down during protests.

“Worshipping here at Kasina has thus become more poignant, and I thank the Church for welcoming my team and me today to this soul-winning and mentoring church to fulfil the great commission of our Lord Jesus Christ,” Kalonzo said.

Kalonzo’s remarks at Kasina underscored a message of both faith and political reflection, one where the memory of Rex Masai is tied to the enduring legacy of Kenya’s millennial generation.
