Kajiado Central MP Elijah Memusi has called for Democracy of Citizens Party leader Rigathi Gachagua to be barred from entering the country upon his return from the United States of America.

Speaking at his Kajiado backyard on Saturday, August 16, 2025, the lawmaker stated that the former DP is a divisive figure and should be barred from returning back to the country

He noted that the country has been peaceful after Gachagua embarked on his trip.

“Kenya has been peaceful since that tribal guy went overseas. We have been peaceful; we have not had demonstrations. I want to send you with one message to the president: if it is possible, let what was done to Miguna be done to him so that he remains where he has been,” he said while delivering a message to Public Service CS Geoffrey Ruku.

Memusi’s sentiments come after the DCP party honchos angle for the return of the outspoken leader scheduled for Thursday, August 21, 2025.

According to the party, Gachagua is scheduled to arrive at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) at noon.

As part of the party plans to welcome the politician, Kiambu Senator Karungo wa Thang’wa suggested that the day should be declared a holiday.

Meanwhile, the opposition party on Thursday, August 14, 2025, raised concerns over what it claimed are potential efforts to disrupt or prevent Gachagua’s arrival.

In a statement, the party stated that senior government officials had made threats to arrest the former deputy president upon landing.

Plans for a grand return

The Deputy Party Leader, Senator Cleophas Malala, called on supporters to turn out in large numbers at JKIA and other airports, framing the event as both a welcome and a sign of political unity. He cautioned that any interference with Gachagua’s arrival would be met with strong political resistance.

The party has also claimed there are plans to divert Gachagua’s flight to Kisumu or Mombasa, a move it says would be aimed at preventing him from making a public address in Nairobi. DCP leaders have said that, if such a diversion happens, supporters will still gather in those cities to receive him.

Speaking at a past event, Thang’wa pledged to make the day a memorable one by mobilising supporters for a grand reception of the politician.

“We promise to come back here again. We will come with all other leaders and Riggy too. Na Riggy G akifika lazima tuende mpaka hio airport ndio tumulete apa Kenya,” the senator said.

Translated to: “When Gachagua arrives, we must go to the airport and welcome him home.”the senator told a rally in Limuru on Wednesday, July 23, 2025.
