Jubilee leaders bash Kioni for joining demos
A section of Jubilee leaders from Mt Kenya East who lost in last year’s elections have denounced the party’s secretary general Jeremiah Kioni (pictured) over what they termed as working without consultations.
Addressing the press at a Chogoria hotel, the team led by Lawrence Gitonga who vied for Maara parliamentary seat, said that the leaders pledged support for Kenya Kwanza’s government. He added that Kioni’s continued support of the Azimio coalition should be taken as personal and his utterances should also not be viewed as the party position.
The team drawn from Tharaka Nithi, Embu and Meru County bashed Kioni for joining Azimio’s demos , arguing that politics are over and the region now requires development projects.
Rebel members
They laughed off Kioni’s threat to oust rebel members of the party and said they are the owners of the party and if need be they can join other parties.
They said President William Ruto won the presidency and urged the opposition to accept and move on to allow the already dilapidated economy grow again. Mt They cited several appointments that Ruto has made so far in the region including CS interior Kithure Kindiki, Agriculture CS Mithika Linturi and Attorney general Justin Muturi and thus affirmed they have all reasons to back him.
The region Gitonga said had a lot of problems especially in the agricultural sector and called on the local leaders to support the government to help rejuvenate the sector especially tea, coffee, miracle and dairy. “Mt Kenya region has never changed. We were actually being forced to join Azimio. We are totally against the rallies because they will destroy our businesses,” said Gitonga. He added, “We heard the other Secretary-General Jeremiah Kioni threatening that all those who will not toe the line will face disciplinary action. We are telling him that the time of issuing threats are far too long. We have a new government now. And if he wants to send us packing, he can go ahead and do so. We can even form a new party.
Gitonga at the same time said they will not allow party funds to be used to facilitate Azimio rallies. “We will not use our party funds to facilitate Azimio rallies. Even if we are leaving this party, our money must be used in the right way.”
