Jitters over Ledama’s April 3 Kajiado rally

Narok Senator Ledama ole Kina is set to hold a meeting on April 3 at Sajiloni village, Kajiado Central, where he is expected to make a major announcement.
Ledama said he does not need to consult any political leader to hold a rally in the county.
The senator said the meeting, where he is expecting 10,000 people, is meant to unite the Maa community.
On Friday, Ledama brought the Ilbisil livestock market to a standstill after purchasing 50 bulls to be slaughtered during the meeting.
“For a long time, the Maa community has lagged behind due to a lack of proper directions. The division along clan and age sets has affected our unity. It is high time that we focus on uniting our community through empowerment initiatives that are not discriminatory,” said Ledama.
However, the Council of Elders Kajiado chapter, led by Richard Oloitiptip, said Ledama’s move is likely to cause tension among residents.
Large numbers
The elders warned Ledama against holding the meeting.
Kajiado Senator Samuel Seki said he would attend the meeting and also urged residents to attend in large numbers.
“I have heard my brother is planning a mega rally in my constituency. He has not informed me of his motive, but we have agreed with Governor Ole Lenku that we will attend the meeting. If the motive is unity, we will be there to ensure the message is not distorted to cause confusion among residents.”
