DCP party leader and former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua has suffered yet another blow. Defections seem to be more pronounced in his DCP party with the pronouncement of exit from active politics of yet another close ally to him.

This follows the announcement to quit active politics by the former Kigumo Member of Parliament and a close ally of the former deputy president, Rigathi Gachagua, Jamleck Kamau, alias ‘Kabisa Kabisa’.

Announcing his exit from active politics on his official Facebook account on Thursday, January 22, 2026, Jamleck has cited his reason for exiting active politics as beyond personal control, but has also announced that he will bounce back soon. He also thanked his supporters for their continued support, promising to continue with the engagements.

“Good morning, good people. Due to reasons beyond my control, I have, today, 22nd Jan 2026, decided to take a break from active politics. I want to specifically thank all my supporters and assure you that I will continue engaging and consulting you as we move forward. The backbone of our society, the Gen Z’s, thank you so much for the support you’ve accorded me, and I will never tire of telling you to stand firm, fair and with principles. Be back soon. God bless you all, and God bless this, our country, Kenya,” said Jamleck.

Jamleck’s bid for the top seat

Jamleck, who served as an MP for the Kigumo constituency from the year 2007 to 2017, has been unsuccessfully vying for the gubernatorial seat in Murang’a county and was seen to kickstart the move for vying for the seat again in 2027 under the DCP party with prospects to unseat the current governor, Irungu Kang’ata.

Mass defection from DCP

He now joins a list of defectors from the Mount Kenya region who have since ditched the former deputy president’s side, the most recent others being the member of parliament for Juja constituency, George Koimburi, and Githunguri lawmaker Gathoni wa Muchomba, among other notable characters.

The DCP party leader has, however, dismissed the defectors, terming them as moles who have been sent by the rival party UDA, and stated that the party remains intact, although the exodus raises questions about the strength of the party in the backyard of the former deputy president, Rigathi Gachagua.
