Indian navy ship docks in Mombasa port for joint drill with Kenya

The Indian Embassy in Kenya has announced the arrival of an Indian Navy ship, Trinkand, at the Mombasa port for a four-day joint drill with the Kenyan Navy aimed at strengthening military cooperation between India and Kenya.

In a statement released by the Indian Embassy in Kenya on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, the warship, which arrived at Mombasa Port on April 7, will remain at the port until April 10.

Worth noting, the Indian Naval Ship Trinkand is a frontline guided-missile frigate of the Indian Navy

In addition, the Embassy confirmed that the warship will be conducting professional exchanges with the Kenyan Navy personnel as part of India’s broader naval deployment across African nations under what New Delhi calls the MAHASAGAR vision.

At the same time, the Indian Embassy announced that the operation is currently on an operational deployment to strengthen maritime ties with African nations, with Kenya being at the focal point at this point in time.

“Indian Naval Ship Trikand is on port call at Mombasa Port, Kenya for an Operational Turnaround (OTR) from 07-10 Apr 2026. INS Trikand is a frontline guided-missile frigate of the Indian Navy and is currently on an operational deployment to strengthen maritime ties with African nations, aligning with India’s MAHASAGAR vision,” the statement in part reads.

Similarly, during the four-day tour, the crew will be engaging in professional exchanges and interactions, reinforcing shared values of security, stability, and collaboration at sea.

In addition, the ship will also undergo a Passage Exercise with a Kenyan Navy Ship on completion of her port call

The embassy has stated that the visit underscores India’s commitment to strengthening maritime cooperation, enhancing interoperability, and fostering strong ties with partners in the Western Indian Ocean Region.
