The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has announced significant progress in its Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, with over 90,000 new voters registered as of October 31, 2025.

According to a press release issued on Sunday, November 2, 2025, IEBC chairman Erastus Ethekon noted that the milestone reflects the commission’s efforts to fulfil its constitutional mandate under Article 88(4) of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010, to facilitate voter enrollment across the country’s 290 constituency offices.

“The Commission notes steady progress as more citizens take advantage of this opportunity to register as new voters, transfer their registration to preferred polling stations, or update their details where necessary.”

Registration data by county

The IEBC reported that 90,020 individuals have registered as new voters, while 15,619 voters have transferred their registration to preferred polling stations, and 188 have updated their details.

“As at 31st October 2025, the cumulative progress of the ongoing CVR exercise is as follows: a. Newly registered voters: 90,020 b. Transfers: 15,619 c. Updates: 188 A detailed county-by-county breakdown of the registration statistics is annexed to this release,” Ethekon noted.

The county-by-county breakdown shows varying levels of participation. Nairobi City leads with 16,512 new registrations and 5,388 transfers, followed by Kiambu with 9,917 new registrations and 1,766 transfers.

Other counties, such as Machakos (4,026 new registrations, 367 transfers), Mombasa (3,967 new registrations, 1,791 transfers), Meru (3,128 new registrations, 279 transfers), and Murang’a (3,330 new registrations, 311 transfers), have also recorded steady progress. Focus on Electoral Preparedness

The registration exercise, which resumed on September 29, 2025, excludes the 24 electoral areas scheduled for by-elections on November 27, 2025. The IEBC emphasised that the CVR process is key to maintaining an up-to-date voter register, an essential component of ensuring free, fair, and credible elections.

“The Commission did not carry out Continuous Voter Registration in the 24 electoral areas with by-elections scheduled for 27th November 2025.”

The commission urged all stakeholders, including political parties, civil society organisations, faith-based organisations, and the media, to mobilise eligible citizens to register, verify their details, or transfer to their preferred polling stations.

Commitment to Democratic Participation

The IEBC reaffirmed its commitment to electoral integrity and inclusivity as it continues its nationwide rollout. Preparations include mapping registration centers and implementing voter education programs to enhance accessibility and public awareness.

The data, the commission said, will serve as a foundation for the upcoming 2027 general elections, underscoring the importance of sustained voter engagement and participation. The ongoing registration drive aims to ensure that every eligible Kenyan has the opportunity to play an active role in shaping the country’s democratic future.
